Our beautiful Heron House is ready to rent!
Introducing The Heron House
We have some good news to share. Our fourth rental house, The Heron House, is now open to visitors. We’ve spent the past year building it slowly and thoughtfully, trying to create a space that feels welcoming — for family, friends, and friends we haven’t met yet.
The house sits right on the shore of Lake Nicaragua, with a clear view of Concepción volcano. We think the location is pretty special. When the lake is high — usually from about July through early February — the water comes right up to the house, and you fall asleep to the sound of waves along the shore. During the drier months, when the water recedes a bit, the shoreline opens up and the flowers we’ve planted around the mangroves really start to shine.
Inside, the house has all the modern comforts we’ve come to appreciate ourselves: a big, well-equipped kitchen, a screened porch, high-speed internet, and solar power, which means you can work remotely without disruptions. There’s also a private rocky beach out front, which tends to become everyone’s favorite spot.
Wildlife is just part of daily life here. Monkeys often pass through the trees overhead, Cara Cara falcons and Black Vultures circle above, and Egrets and Herons fish along the water’s edge right in front of the house. We spend a lot of time just sitting on the deck watching whatever happens to wander by.
Guests are welcome to visit our organic farm as well, where we live alongside donkeys and goats. And on the island itself, it’s easy to fill your days with yoga, kayaking, horseback rides, or simply doing very little at all.
The Heron House is our latest attempt to create a place that feels comfortable, calm, and connected to nature — a home we genuinely enjoy spending time in, and one we’re excited to share.
