Fun Things To Do at Finca Ometepe

Horseback Riding on the Slopes of Maderas

Ride along ancient trails for one to four hours depending on group size with a local cowboy as your guide. Depending upon your desires there are beautiful vistas along roads and trails leaving the farm or choose to ride through-out the village, ride to higher elevation through ancient forests, or ride to a village about two miles away from where they roast and sell their own coffee and cocoa. Cost is per person for a 2-hour tour, leaving from the ranch. A translator is available for an additional charge per hour.


Visit the Petroglyphs

A walking tour to the nearby petroglyphs and then on to Finca Magdalena to sample local organic coffee. Cost is $20 for a group up to 4 people. Additional $5 extra per person. Tour is 2 hours and the guide is fluent in English and very conversant in local history and ecology.


Become an Organic Gardener

Learn the process of organic gardening from how to create several different types of organic fertilizer, how to prevent or minimize insect infestation using natural remedies, and get a full tour of our extensive gardens which includes over 20 kinds of local and exotic fruits and vegetables. Participants will be able to harvest produce of their choice for their dinner. Cost: $25 for a group up to four people. Translator available for an additional charge depending on availability. 


Stroll with a local farmer & his cows

Learn from a local farmer how to milk a cow and keep the milk for your breakfast. $25 for a group of up to four people to work with Jose our farmhand who is a goat guru. Allow two hours depending on group size. Translator available for an additional charge per hour.


Learn to Milk the Goats & Make Cheese

Learn how to milk a goat and create divine goat cheese flavored with organic herbs from our garden and fresh honey from the island. $25 for a group up to 4 people to work with Jose, our farmhand for two hours. This particular experience is only available during the times of the year that goats are producing sufficient milk. If sufficient milk is not available, we can substitute organic goat milk at no additional cost, so you can still enjoy making cheese. A translator is available for an additional charge per hour.
